Swimming To Success

Five-Time Winners St Bede’s College crowned 2024 ACC Swimming Championships

In a stunning victory at this year’s ACC Swimming Championships, St Bede’s College once again was crowned winners for the fifth consecutive year – and made competition history with the largest winning margin of 600 points!

Out of the 55 swimming events on the day, the College took to the podium for 48, taking 20 First Place finishes, and winning both the Junior and Senior Cups. Swim Squad Co-Captains, Riley Kotow and Ashton Roberts put the win down to preparation, dedication and team spirit.

“The lead up to this year’s historic championship win was like none other before it. The way in which every single swimmer committed to training and bettering themselves was truly remarkable, resulting in the largest winning margin in the competition’s history.

Heading into the event, we were all feeling pretty pumped up and excited to get in the pool and start racing. We all felt very well prepared thanks to the months of training and trials put together by our coaches, Mr Gavin Brown, Mr Greg Roberts and Miss Jess Kirk.

We put in a very strong start through our relays, putting us in front from the very start. All the boys continued to encourage and motivate each other through hard work, both in the pool and out, which really showed the Beda spirit.

The performances throughout the day represented the hours the swimmers have put into training in preparation for this event. In the grandstands, our team was the loudest and showed copious amounts of enthusiasm. We couldn’t be prouder of our team for winning this Championship five years in a row and can’t thank our Coach, Gavin Brown enough for the amazing effort he’s put in for our team.”

The squad’s triumph is no surprise to Coach Gavin Brown, who says it came down to the dedication and determination of the squad.

“I can’t compliment the students enough for their efforts. Their commitment, preparation and performance in the ACC Swim Squad has made the whole College very proud of them.”

St Bede’s College students who won their A Heat are now ACC Champions for their age group and stroke, including Hugh Jones is the ACC Champion for U/13 Freestyle, Butterfly & Backstroke, plus was part of two winning relays; Joseph Hetherington is the U/17 ACC Champion in Backstroke and Derby Heelis is the U/17 Champion in Freestyle. We can’t wait to see what these students can do next!
